My Letter to Mother Earth

Dear Earth,

You are a magical being. So intricate and unique. I don’t begin to understand the mechanics behind your functionality. I take a breath in and you supply me with life. To you I owe everything.

Yet for some bizarre, unknown reason I continually abuse you. I want so badly to do right by you. Yet, something is stopping me. A force inside me is causing you harm. I continually scar you with my greed. While you may not immediately bleed I know the damage I cause is everlasting. The bruises are appearing and they are getting worse. First, your pain will trouble those in the poorest places, unable to fend for themselves. Eventually that trouble will reach me. I know it is coming. When it arrives I will beg for it to stop. It will be too late. I will have no-one to blame but myself.

My dear Earth, please tell me there is something, anything, I can do to fix this dire mess.

I can change, I will change, I have to change.

Yours faithfully,

Sarah, human
